ABOUT PNGSPN
As Papua New Guinea marks 50 years of independence, there is a timely opportunity to reflect on and reinvest in the foundational systems that drive the PNG sports industry forward. Sport is a central pillar of PNG’s identity, development and unity — yet the capacity, support and visibility of our sports professionals and administrators remain underdeveloped.
At the same time, the road to the Brisbane 2032 Olympics is a powerful moment for the Pacific, and for PNG in particular, to step forward — not only on the field of play, but in boardrooms, coaching benches, training institutes and leadership forums. With PNG@50 and Brisbane 2032 as bookends, the next decade is a decade of opportunity to build a national network that connects, empowers and elevates the people behind PNG’s sporting success.
WHY A NETWORK, WHY NOW
While individual capability exists across the system, connection between sports professionals is largely informal. As a result, knowledge, experience and opportunities are not shared in an organised or systematic way. PNGSPN is a lightweight, enabling platform that connects professionals across Papua New Guinea — designed to:
This initiative is also about recognising and valuing the people — many of them volunteers or under-resourced — who make PNG sport function every day. It is not designed to duplicate existing organisations or deliver programs, but to strengthen the system by improving connection, capability and coordination.
CORE OBJECTIVES
Creating a central platform for sports professionals to connect across sports and roles.
Supporting mentoring, exposure and informal development pathways.
Opening opportunities for collaboration and alignment across the system.
Enabling sharing of experience, tools and practical insights.
Whether you are an administrator, coach, official, executive, educator, commercial manager, sports scientist, medical practitioner, volunteer, or governance professional, the Network provides opportunities to connect with others who share a passion for strengthening sport in PNG.
Every organization has solved a problem that another organization is facing.
